Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) was launched in 2013 by Andrew Tan with the focus on Malaysia fashion market. Influential in the Malaysian fashion industry today, Tan had set up Andrewโs Models back in 1987. KLFW was designed with three key objectives which is to promote fashion, paying attention to ready-to-wear (RTW) collections, and provide future to the fashion industry.
In several years Andrew Tan has encountered some problems, such as the absence of financing and general recognition at the beginning, but the event has grown steadily. Now, KLFW is relevant for attention of both sponsors and designers and it foster the local talents in fashion. The key area of attention that Tan has paid is to encourage Malaysians to use products made by local designers to ensure proper development of these brands within the domestic market before going international. Under his leadership, KLFW remains as a vital platform for both upcoming and seasoned designers in Malaysia that has enhanced the growth of the garment business in the country, which is currently generating billions of ringgit. In the future, Andrew Tan plans on partnering with more premium malls and investing in the retail segment to increase the exposure of Malaysian designers.
Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2024 will take place from July 29 to August 4, 2024, at the Esplanade, KLCC Park. The event is designed to showcase the creativity and talent of Malaysia's fashion scene. Some of the activities to be presented at the KLFW 2024 are runway shows where designer that are already in the market and new talents who have not hit the market yet will present their new fashion designs. A key focus of the event is fostering collaborations between designers and major brands. Besides the fashion shows, KLFW is involved in networking with various players in the fashion industry including the fashion media, fashion celebrities, buyers and the fashion world in general from the global market.
